After the roadblock caused by Roll Deep at last month’s ILUVLIVE, we advise you to arrive early for October as the man that has gone from underground sensation to mainstream chart success – DJ Ironik – takes care of the headline slot.
With his smash hit ‘Stay With Me’ (dubbed the anthem for broken Britain by The Sun newspaper) still picking up heavy rotation on both TV and radio, Ironik drops into Favela Chic to showcase new single ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’ and exclusive tracks from his forthcoming album ‘No Point In Wasting Tears’. Expect influences from R&B, grime, pop and hip hop blended by the boy who’s been working towards this since he began DJing for Twice As Nice at age 13.
Support on the night comes from Crazy Cousinz, the Rinse FM resident who is no stranger to success himself as the man behind the massive summer anthem ‘Bongo Jam’. We’ve been assured they love to play their bongos in the evening too, so expect an injection of funked-up soul into proceedings on the night. Something that will be more than complimented by the man they’re calling the new Prince – Leon Jean Marie – who will be performing a rare acoustic set, and is one to see before he completely blows.
The ILUVLIVE crew have also pulled out something for those who like their beats on the fatter side, as UK hip hop super-producer, Mark Ronson & Amy Winehouse remixer and ILuvLive Midland representative Baby J makes the trip down the M1. Early releases from his forthcoming LP ‘Baby Food’ have already featured the talents of Asher D, Nathan and Million Dan and tonight Malik, David Gibb and Wreh-Asha all join him on stage on mic duties.
Throw genre-fusing, beat-boxing, guitar playing, harmonising group Duke into the mix, alongside recent Hugo Boss Urban Rules winner Meleka and you have one of the most rammed ILuvLive line-ups in recent months.
MTV Base will continue to broadcast a highlights package on The Lick. Twin B and Ras Kwame (1Xtra/Radio 1) will be on hosting duties. Anyone can sign up for the open mic on the night and the most popular act with the audience wins a coveted slot at the following month’s show playing live with the ILUVLIVE band.
Launched in London in June 2004, ILUVLIVE is a live event success story. With few live showcases open to urban music, ILUVLIVE has helped numerous performers present their artistry to music industry virtuosos, journos and fans alike and has provided many artists with a leg up in the notoriously fickle music industry.
Favela Chic has been ILUVLIVE’s new home since June; the Brazilian-themed venue, located in the heart of Old Street, offers a vibrant atmosphere and has been a hit with artists and audience alike.
November’s ILUVLIVE will be brought to as part of the London Jazz Festival in association with BBC Radio 3 and as such will be moving to Cargo for a one off special on Monday 17th November. More details will follow soon.
